Two bits of randomness
One thing I forgot to mention is that my hair is growing back! It still looks kind of strange, but that bald-as-a-cueball patch on the nape of my neck is definitely getting hairy. In a good way. So the swatting with the needle, the herbal tea, and the topical herbs are doing the trick! I owe Traver a lot of thanks! I'm going to post his website as soon as it's up and running. Check it out when I do!
Another thing I forgot to mention is some of the hilarious slogans I saw at the SoCal qualifiers for the CrossFit games (which will be held in Aromas, CA, in July). Each CrossFit affiliate (or "box") has its own t-shirts, and frequently its own slogan(s). The t-shirt I got from CrossFit LA/Petranek Fitness when I started there says, "I Do the Impossible."
Inspiring, right? Nice sentiment. Well, some of the slogans are a bit more to the point, like, "My Cult Is Better Than Your Cult." Or how about, "Vault the Weak, Trample the Dead"?
Or my personal favorite, from CrossFit Balboa: "Go Fuck Yourself." CrossFit Balboa is run by John Welbourne, a very large NFL player who developed CrossFit Football and is a nutritionist who came to give a talk at CFLA a couple months ago. His most notable comment, in my opinion, was that people need protein, and the protein should come from sources that have "faces and souls," which is to say, meat protein.
So CrossFitters take their shit very seriously. Kind of like grapplers. ("Jesus Didn't Tap", anyone?)
