Prancing and Sucking

I quit my job, sold my home, and drove around the country in the summer and fall of 2006, training BJJ, finding myself, and landing in LA. I still travel a lot and get to train in amazing places. Some of my friends are irritated that I "prance" around the world and think I "suck" for doing so.

Another beautiful, sunny, warm day in Juneau

Beautiful = beautiful (mountains are gorgeous)
Sunny = drizzly
Warm = ~55 degrees

So I'm using my imagination a little. But it really is lovely here. I'm back at Silverbow getting ready to head over to Shane's with CB. I'm gonna shoot a gun or two, excavate some things, and maybe ride a big-wheeled motorcycle. Debbie is at work today; she has to make some money so I can continue to sponge off of her this week. Good show, Deb!

Yesterday she, CB and I hiked up Mount Roberts, about a 5 mile round trip when you add in all the little side loops we did. Mount Roberts is at the top of a tramway and usually affords you a gorgeous view of the city. There was a lot of mist and cloud cover yesterday, so the view was of a lot of mist and cloud cover, but you can probably make out the cruise ships in the one picture and a little bit of the town, and of course the tramway supports, in the other.

At the top, we saw some wild blueberry bushes:

and a bald eagle in a rehabilitation program. The keeper said that today they are releasing a bunch of eagles into the wild, which is great. Not so great is that this particular eagle can never be released; she is partially blind and has balance and equilibrium problems. (I could think of a joke to insert here, but I felt bad for her and I guess got a dose of patriotism or something. Eagles really are beautiful birds, and it made me a little sad that she'll probably never fly again.)

And of course on the way down, CB had a bath:

Next hike will probably be along Mendenhall Glacier. Right now I'm off to Shane's! I will return with pictures of me packing heat and operating heavy machinery!

"she is partially blind and has balance and equilibrium problems" Kinda sounds like our country.

I hope you got me something nice from Alaska. Like, seal blubber, whale oil, an igloo or mukluks.

I hope you're enjoying your trip. I'm beginning mine, can't wait to do the law school readings. Just shoot me now.

I see your point. She is perhaps the BEST mascot we could have chosen.

Can't get you any of the things you asked for, but I can get you salmon, salmon, or salmon. Which would you prefer?

So school has started. Quick, get finished and pass the bar in case I need representation as a result of, um, incidents on my trip.

"incidents" eh? lol

hey Val I would LOVE some salmon!! I lived in Oregon for a bit back before the market crashed and I miss just walking into a store and buying like a whole fish for like $10 ... just a fillet down here is like $5 and it's a big fish.

Hey by the way where are ya gonna be around Sept 1st cause there is that Burning Man Festival up in northwestern Nevada I was vaguely thinking of checking out.

Follow-up (after a few cold ones heh) well so like I like how you say "I'm using my imagination here" sort of reminds me of when Snoopy is dueling the Red baron ... cool eagles I spent 5 summers canoeing through northern canada when I was in high school which I think must be why im incapable of coexisting in the corporate world and that jogs a memory of when we were in Lake Nipigon at the end of a trip ... we disturbed some nesting bad eagles, and they swooped us ... what was particularly amazing / scary was how FAST they can dive bomb, we had to get our paddles up just to protect our eyes, in case, they got like within 20 feet of us, and then went back up to the top of the rock cliff (like 700 feet up!). I'll never forget it. Awesome. Ok im going to bed lol.

Ok, I"ll take the salmon. Specifically salmon heads.

I'm a little disappointed about the mukluks.
